Great coffee and excellent breakfast burritos. A nice, clean place to hang out (or get out of the car on a long trip, like I did), sit and eat, or just use the bathroom. I only stopped in quickly, but one could hang here for awhile and be very happy.

The ice cream sandwich was the best I ever had in my life. It was so good I may have dreams about it. This truly was a food revelation. The chocolate chip cookies were themselves perfection. Sandwiched between the cookies was the epitome of perfection of maple walnut ice cream. I feel I traveled to Vermont to taste delicious ice cream and my wish was fulfilled. Thank you for making my wish come true.

Walked in 40 minutes before they were supposed to close, and was told I could only order cold food. Then 15 seconds later, was informed I couldn't order *any* food. Looked like the guys making food just wanted to duck out of work early. Menu looked good, but I never had a chance to try anything. Not going to come back.

The panini is excellent however they are over priced and it takes forever to get! They have very limited seating, 4 stools inside and 4 outside. The only cool part is that they are attached to a great bookstore!

This place is a little piece of heaven in a little place called Manchester. I would beat my balls with a rubber mallet for their catcher in the rye sandwich.

Judging from other reviews, they've either improved or we got lucky as it relates to service and wait time. I suspect it was our arrival off peak, 1:30 on a cloudy early Sept pre leaf peeper afternoon. We ordered a couple of salads and some outmeal, all of which were outstanding. The counter staff were friendly and helpful. There's ample seating up and to the left and they bring your order out to you so that they can avoid the congestion in the small space where you order. Although we're generally carbophobes, they had a temptingly nice selection of baked goods for those of you just looking for an accompaniment to your coffee drink.

Don't let the entrance fool you, this place has tons of seating both outside and inside. It is connected to the bookstore, which can also be handy if you need to grab something to peruse while enjoying your coffee. The coffee itself, however, was just ok. The mocha my beau bought was so sweet I wouldn't have been able to drink it and the drip coffee was drinkable but not as exciting as I was hoping when I heard the name spiral press. The pastries are great though and the folks working there nice. It'd be good if they could unclutter the entrance a little; folks just kept bumping into each other and climbing over one another to read the sandwich board.

My only complaint is that they didn't open until 8:30 last Sunday...I volunteered to pick up goodies for my friends since we had a hockey game at the local rink later that morning. The chocolate apricot scone that I had was still warm. SOOO good. The muffins that I brought back were also still warm and they got rave reviews. I could do some serious damage on the baked goods in this place. Coffee was fresh, hot and really good. Just had to ask the nice folks behind the counter for some half and half - they hadn't set them up yet. Cut them some slack...they just opened. The bookstore is very cool - was before...but not this trip. Next time. I'll consume some serious calories again there as well.

A gem! Fresh baked goods and wonderful large upstairs area to enjoy a latte and write in your journal or chat with friends is so very appealing. Their scones are especially wonderful Haven't tried their lunch specials but it's filled to the brim with patrons so I am sure the food is equally as delish. Many vegetarian options. Well, everywhere is Vermont is vegetarian friendly. And, vegetarian friendly with amazing concoctions unlike other areas of the country. In the summer, you can take you food outside and sit on a little patio near the ice cream shop.

Stopped in on our drive from NJ to Stratton. What a great place! The coffee and baked goods were very good. Great place to stop with kids with plenty of seating, order at counter format, and a great bookstore/ toy store attached. If we lived in the area we would be here weekly.

I heart independent bookstores -- but I heart, even more, independent bookstores with cafes. The Northshire Bookstore, with its Spiral Press Cafe, does not disappoint. The lower level of the cafe is where you order your food (I ordered a cup of hot chai, and a "Yellow Submarine" sandwich of curried chicken salad with my choice of sourdough wheat bread, and it comes with chips and pickle slices), and the mezzanine level is where you eat it in a table-and-chair area that can seat about 50 or so. Many were working on their laptops or reading books when I was there. A great place to eat, sit, talk, and reflect.

Located in one of my all time favorite independent new book stores (there will always be a soft spot for Boston and Brattleboros rambling used book stores) spiral press serves up hot and cold drinks and a good selection of foods. At times, thanks to the surrounding melee known as Manchester Outlet Stores the store can end up with a bit of a wait for their goodness. Many of their items range from good to great. why three stores, for a place I look forward to going to? it's the hit more miss nature of the place. you might have your drink in minutes or 20 minutes or longer - and there is little indication of which group you might fall into. Also, the last time I was there i got a hot chocolate, that was luke warm and tasted like swiss miss. I really just needed the free-internet, so i sipped away, until my girlfriend showed up to join me, and had picked me up a wonderfully pipping hop beautiful chai latte. The staff, though occasionally haggard during the busies seasons, are always friendly and do the best they can with what I imagine most of the year is a pretty low key place. This can be a problem, as I feel they don't rush people enough when the lines get long. Nothing is more frustrating than a line out the door, and some idiot, who's been waiting in line for 15 minutes, suddenly realized he has no idea what he wants. so yes, Spiral Press is A-OK, but +1 star because I know when I'm in town I'll be going here, so there is something about it I do love.

This cafe is the perfect place to grab a bit of good food, coffee, and while away the afternoon in a cavernous dining room with free wifi. I came here on a Saturday afternoon my family and we'd come again in a heart beat. The food was really good: Veggie burger: Tasty and healthy. My only complaint is that whatever sauce it came with (maybe honey mustard?) is a tad too sweet. Sweet pea soup--yummy Quiche and salad--excellent Mac & cheese--enthusiastic thumbs up from my eight-year old Chocolate chip cookies--hard to eat just one In the dining room, there were loads of people working on their laptops, nursing coffee drinks and looking happy. And some groups of people who were in no hurry to leave. It's also connected to the amazing Northshire Bookstore, which is one of the best small town bookstores I've ever been to. It's worth a visit--even if you're coming from afar.

Spiral Press Cafe is a great place to stop by if you're ever in Manchester Center. The sandwiches are a little pricey, but the paninis are delicious. I usually have a hard time with paninis because the bread often cuts the roof of my mouth; the bread here was toasty enough to enjoy, but not too hard or sharp to shred my mouth to bits. The roast beef was excellent and it came with a pickle and kettle chips. They also have a half sandwich (cold only) and soup combo. Their cheddar chowder was great. The coffee is as good as advertised and they make a great mocha latte. In addition to the food, this cafe doubles as a bookstore! It seems like an odd combination, but it works in a small Vermont town like Manchester. There is plenty of additional seating upstairs with free wi-fi.

First, the place is a nice cafe right in Manchester Center, looked great from the outside, looked like it was busy, had seats so perfect place to grab something to snack on while my companion had a meeting. Second... your a cafe! With FREE WiFi I order a iced tea, I order a cup of soup! I sit down next to another patron that was using her laptop and break mine out. Log on and I am off and running. Lets Recap, you have free WiFi, you have some of my money I am sitting in a place that had other people using there laptop. Here is where it went down hill. Very downhill in my opinion. I (WE) were approached by a staff member, who in all honesty was very polite and explained that due to aesthetic reasons they preferred me and the other person to go upstairs and use our laptop due to the big window and the view from the outside. **Lets be honest, this makes no sense** Now, while I would have loved to know this in advance, prior to grabbing my food and drink, getting comfy, and having my laptop and food in front of me, so that I could have more easily gone upstairs. I love rules, I own rules, the dude abides by rules. A sign would have been a much better way of expressing your interest in having all of us nasty looking working stiffs, and to be fair, a lovely lady on her lunch break (which was cut short as she was a little more put off by the "rule". I would have read the sign, understood that you preferred to have computers upstairs (no reason needed, especially a completely ridiculous one) and nothing would have been ever heard of me and this place most like would have not only gotten 4or 5 stars instead of this. I would have also left with about $20 bucks more of pastries when I left the place.. .Instead I am upstairs, nursing my tea, waiting for my companion to be finished and then getting in my car (as I am passing through) and finding another place to grab some road snacks. Which, buy the way, the person who left after her shortened lunch break sent me down the road to a nice little gourmet place that I am sure will be fantastic. So lets review: Cafe, WiFi! (first rule in running a cafe/restaurant... don't take your self to seriously.. and the 18 year old staff member was certainly taking this rule way to seriously.) BTW: Thank you for the sign telling me exactly where you would like me to sit while I am visiting your establishment. sorry, not finished yet, I would like to stress that the person that took my order was acting like she would have much rather been sticking hot pokers in her eyes then being there, I even left a 100% tip on $5 to hopefully brighten her day. Oh well...

Stopped in to this cafe on the way through on a long road trip, in order to take a quick phone call. Staff couldn't have been more friendly, and while the food/drink was a bit pricey it was high quality and delicious. Wish I'd had more time to hang out, and explore the attached bookstore!

  • Danny F.

The sandwiches here are pretty bad and horribly priced considering other options in town. The staff has never been friendly and it just doesn't seem to have a great atmosphere. The three stars is carried by the great coffee drinks and the baked goods they have. Plus the convenience of the book store.

Grab some sandwiches and head over to the Manchester Quarry. Some of the best sandwiches we've ever had, and one of the best Strawberry Rhubarb pies I've ever had. Attached to an awesome bookstore - really great children's toy/book section.

Just stumbled on the place while exploring the town on vacation. Be prepared to DROOL at the pastry display when you walk in, especially if you have a sweet tooth like me! The cafe is connected to a bookstore, so when you initially walk in through the cafe entrance, the place seems absolutely tiny with not much seating. There was a much bigger seating area in back. I wanted to try so many of the baked goods in the display case like the maple corn muffin, the strawberry shortbread bar, the thick and chunky cookies choices on top of the display, and the croissants. Unfortunately, I had to just settle for 2 things, so I picked the chocolate croissant and the strawberry shortbread bar. Both were delicious. The chocolate croissant was what it should be, which was flaky, buttery, and chocolatey on the inside and out! While it was delicious, it wasn't "out of this world" good. The Strawberry Shortbread Bar was better. It was soft, but still hard in texture as shortbread should be and paired well with the slightly sweet strawberry preserves. It was a good blend of sweet and buttery goodness. Also tried the Mokka Java, which was handed to me with just hot chocolate at the bottom of my mug so that I could select the coffee I wanted from the coffee dispensers on the counter. THAT was DELICIOUS! I also heard that the Dark Roast Coffee was divine! 1 Free refill is also a great perk! I'm sure I'll return just to try some more of the baked goods.

We were spending a nice day in manchester and soem quality time at the bookstore and thought "why not eat here as its easy and right here", Well the food was at best fair. Corn chowder was salty and no flavor and grilled cheese used what seemed hot house tomatoes. Coffee was good. What made it not nice was the service. The young lady taking our order was rude, trying to rush us through - quick to prompt for the order options and down right didn't seem to care that we might of ordered a dessert or side. I found it unpleasant to sit in the nice eating section only to have the server yell, and I mean loudly, your order number to place your meal in front of you. We will go back to the bookstore but avoid this choice for lunch. It could have been and should be a place to celebrate Vermont and local fare. Sorry we could not be more upbeat. It was beyond quirky to absurd.

You can count on everything being extremely fresh and a healthy portion! I am a fan of their chai tea (best in the area), iced tea, breakfast sandwiches/burritos, as well as their lunch sandwiches. I only wish they had a salad option and fresh smoothies, not such a fan of the mix. Nice location with the bookstore!

  • Mike R.

Besides it being the BEST bookstore that I have found in years (unfortunately it's 6 hours away in Vermont), the folks in Spiral Press were great. Their baking is delicious and service was great. Stop in a see for yourself!

  • Cody S.

The location is nice right downtown and connected to a bookstore. They do offer a great products but the prices are quite high and the service can have an attitude and not very welcoming. This is the only place like this in the area , worth checking out when in town but they could improve their service and be friendlier to the customers. A great product with high prices and lousy service in a nice quaint location.

I really want to like this place. I love the bookstore and find the people there very helpful, but once you step into the coffee shop its a different story. When you walk in the place is cozy and quaint, but the waitstaff is what ruins it. They are mostly young (no excuse really) and will totally ignore you. I recently ordered a hot chocolate and a cranberry bar. The girl who served me continued her conversation with her coworker and simply slid the bar cold on the plate to me with a smile. No, question whether I wanted it warmed up or not. It doesn't matter that it was in the refrigerator case. I thought maybe the hot chocolate would warm me up. No such luck, my hot chocolate was served to me luke warm. There's a freaking thermometer in the frothing pitcher!!! Come on! I have been in that situation and these kids need to have a serious kick in the behind. I know its a tourist town, but I expect them to actually pretend like they care.

  • Fred B.

The food was good but the staff was not polite or pleasant, which is surprising in Vermont. I happened to be there on the day the bookstore was closing early for inventory - two nice women from the children's section in the bookstore were very pleasant and got me several books to choose from even though that area was already closed. I then went to the Spiral Press Cafe - a couple of hours before they closed - and I was treated - I felt - borderline rudely, without any courtesy whatsoever. No "hi, can I help you?" or a "thank you", even after I put a tip in the tip cup.

Attached to the bookstore, with spacious seating up some stairs. They have a couple of soups and an assortment of sammiches. Full range of coffee drinks, of course. The seating area is comfortable, and you can sit revere and eat, read, or use a computer all day. My chicken Caesar wrap was fine, and tasted fresh, altogether the dressing could have been mixed in instead of poured on one side. The chicken was fresh and cooked well, and it seemed like a whole chicken cutlet breast, not tiny pieces.

Quaint little shop attached to the books store. Excellent Latte. Yummy hot chocolate too. A bit pricy but I'd rather support this than a chain. Great soups/sandwiches, backed goodies too. There is a lounge area w tables & eclectic wood chairs, art, music so you can sit & read the local paper & take a respit.

I love that this little cafe is inside of one of the best little bookstores I've been in. The service was friendly and they have a good selection, but I waited about 10-15 minutes for 2 drinks which seemed excessive. I was disappointed in the frozen hot chocolate. It was more like just "cold" hot chocolate because it was blended so much there was no "frozen" part left. My latte was pretty good though.

We were at Yankee Candle and my wife was craving chocolate (imagine that), so we asked one of the nice women working if they knew of any bakeries in town, they recommended Spiral Press. We got a little assortment of goodies. We had the shortbread chocolate chip cookie that was exactly what we expected it to be, just as the name states. We also tried the fudgy brownie and it was was absolutely amazing, especially if you're a chocolate lover (which my wife is). Lastly, we had the oatmeal fudge brownie, loved it! I'm a huge oatmeal cookie fan and this was the best of both worlds, fudgy brownie and oatmeal cookie. The cafe also had delicious looking lunches coming out and a great assortment of coffee and other items. We'll definitely be back the next time we stop by Manchester. 5 stars all the way!

Very cute place. Sincere employees. I'm from Brooklyn, so I appreciate a good latte. Didn't try the food, but I will next time. Wish I went here to eat rather than the rude Zoeys.

Holy caffeinated bliss. This place combines WAY too many of my loves. Coffee...check. Office supplies...check. Books...check. Unique clothing and jewelry at affordable prices...check. They even had pumpkin chocolate chip muffins for pete's sake! I know what my heaven looks like because I was there at Spiral Press Cafe.

Always busy due to location in the wonderful Northshire Bookstore. Prices are high ($8.95 for sandwich) for decidedly average fare. Low rating is due to the "I just push the button on the register" attitude of the counter staff. That is an actual quote! They don't seem to realize that a little graciousness goes a long way. Do yourself a favor and head across the street to Graze, which has excellent, thoughtful food, great service, and a charming dining room. They also have a couple of outdoor tables.

I WISH this bookstore/cafe combo were in my hometown! My wife and I were in search of some much needed caffeine while driving through Manchester. We walked into what we thought was a little bakery cafe, and enjoyed some really good coffee and a terrific maple bread pudding. The coffee comes with a free refill if you have a "for here" cup, and the selection of baked goods were quite impressive. There is also a "real food" menu, with soups & sandwiches - they looked yummy, but we were bad and stuck with the sweeter side of things. As we got up to go, we thought we'd take a peek into what we thought was a small store at the back, only to discover a HUGE independent bookstore - Northshire Bookstore - which we fell in love with (separate review). BTW, if you enter the cafe first, don't be put off by what appears to be a lack of seating. There are plenty of tables & chairs once you enter the bookstore side...

It's a small space that's oft packed, but the separate spacious eating area makes up for it. The lattes, baked goods (incl gluten-free options!), turkey wrap and soups are all delicious and hearty.

The best iced coffee in Manchester, and a delicious array of baked goods including many different kinds of muffins and cookies, plus scones, bagels, croissants and more. Friendly staff and reasonable prices - only wish there was a little bit more indoor seating. This is the perfect place to stretch out with a good book or newspaper for a bit - if only there was somewhere to sit!

They have good Pastries and they make coffees any style, frappes/latte/ etc. Its a busy cafe so you may want to park your car at the plaza where the price chopper is, they also serve lunches.

Cute little cafe attached to a bookstore. Went in because it was on our way to NY and we needed a little caffeine push to get us through the drive. Made a u-turn after seeing the unpretentious facade that basically said "espresso." You walk in and are greeted with a small counter with a lot going on at once. I got a cafe mocha, friend got a latte and a pumpkin and chocolate chip muffin that she wanted to marry - she couldn't stop raving about it. I went next door while waiting for the coffee and bought a cute little bag. It was a pricier coffee stop than expected, but I was happy with my drink and my new bag, and I could've wandered around in the store a bit longer had we not been on a schedule. It had everything from gifts to knick knacks to books and CDs. A wide range if you want to just grab a cup of coffee and pass a leisurely hour. Great coffee!

I may not be popular on this review, but I do not get this place, sure it has great vegan options and good coffees, but other varieties are limited. The staff are not the friendliest of people, if you order anything decaf, they will look at you as if you have two heads. In the past they had a sign for the barista's that states " Decaf is silly, but it exists", but it has since been taken down.

I take slight offense to those who describe this place as "cute." The bookstore is a serious independent which has vast offerings. Spiral cafe is also a serious little attached (though I think not cute) cafe with many options, seemingly attempting to make those of us who come in with quite good quality variety. This is a great place in Manchester for pretty good food, a place in which to munch on it, within the cafe itself or upstairs where your order will be delivered.. Seems pretty good to me...

holy cow. the herbed chicken salad? yes! I'd like to take a quart home with me to California. salads were delicious. Menu so full of goodness it was hard to choose. got kids? they have a kids menu. (mac & cheese, grilled cheese...) Tired of weak Vermont coffee? this is your spot! the adjoining bookstore is not to be missed. really a treat to visit this place. in addition to offering great food, the upstairs dining area is warm, cozy, spacious, and a great place to park with a laptop. recommended without reservation for people with kids, people who need to work, people who like good healthy food and strong coffee, and everyone else!

what a fun little cafe in the cutest bookstore ever. order at the counter from the artisan menu and they bring your order out to you. the pastries in the case looked delicious. the greek salad had delicious feta on it and the cobbler sandwich was quintessentially vermont - yummmm.
